Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy has been noticeably absent from his regular duties for several weeks, but he reappeared on Monday to explain what was going on.
It was a life-changing event that took him away from his daily pressuring of White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
In a segment on “Fox & Friends” with his father, Steve Doocy, and co-hosts Ainsley Earhardt and Brian Kilmeade, Peter said he was spending time at home with his wife and their newborn daughter.
“Doocy returned Monday after spending time on paternity leave in late spring after his wife, Fox News congressional correspondent Hillary Vaughn, returned to work. The couple welcomed their daughter Feb. 1,” The Daily Caller reported.
As a first-time father, he devoted much of his free time to playing with baby Bridget, including moments in the swimming pool, and he even expressed aspirations for her to potentially become a future president, the outlet reported.
A co-worker gave Doocy and his wife a pink onesie for their daughter that read “Future President.” “Keep an eye out for the Fox News Democracy 2060 coverage,” Doocy quipped during the segment.
As part of his daily routine, he would wake up at 7 a.m., feed her a bottle, and take her for a walk. Now that the baby is older, she has started eating solid food, including sweet potatoes, he revealed.
Doocy shared the joyous news of Bridget Blake Doocy’s birth in a social media post on February 9. He and his wife had previously announced that they were expecting a baby girl during a “Fox & Friends” segment in September, where his father, Steve, also shared recipes from his cookbook.
During a White House press briefing on January 3, Jean-Pierre jokingly suggested that Doocy should name his daughter after her.
In response, Doocy said that he and his spouse would consider Jean-Pierre’s suggestion “under advisement.” (WATCH BELOW)
In addition, he posted a photograph on Instagram Jan. 6 as he shouted a question to President Joe Biden. Doocy captioned the post reading, “MISTER PRESIDENT, WHAT SHOULD WE NAME OUR DAUGHTER?”
After his daughter’s birth, Doocy noted on Twitter: “Asked @joebiden for tips about being a new dad, at the WH holiday reception. His advice: ‘hold her tight.’ Will do!”
PEOPLE magazine published a story and exclusive photos of the joyous occasion.
“I didn’t realize this until now, but I’ve been training for motherhood my entire career by trying to get lawmakers on Capitol Hill to respond to my questions. This job isn’t much different,” Hillary, a Fox Business reporter, told PEOPLE. “‘Baby Bridget – can you give us a comment? Are you hungry or gassy, or both?’ Trying to get an on-the-record answer is tough!”
“I knew where all the offices were for senators who used to be doctors. Sen. Barrasso (Wyoming physician of the year) saw me the day before I went into labor and told me to reach out if I ever needed anything. Luckily, I didn’t have to call him to catch the baby!” Hillary continued. “I’ve only been a mom for one week, but it’s already the best assignment I’ve ever had. She’s stolen the show!”
Steve Doocy added for the article: “When I wrote a book on fatherhood, I highlighted a famous quote that, ‘There are three stages of a man’s life: he believes in Santa Claus, he doesn’t believe in Santa Claus, he is Santa Claus.’ Peter, congratulations, you just made it to fatherhood’s third round.”
“The day Peter was born at George Washington Hospital — not far from the White House, while his mother Kathy was having killer contractions — she turned and said to me, ‘When should we start a college fund?’ My wife was sounding like a Morgan Stanley commercial,” Steve joked.
