Stipendium Hungaricum

The Hungarian Government’s prestigious higher education scholarship program, offers a wide range of courses for high-achieving international students. It aims to internationalize Hungarian higher education, strengthen academic and research relations, and enhance the global reputation of Hungarian education.

This program, established in 2013, is overseen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and managed by the Tempus Public Foundation.

Benefits

For Bachelor’s, Master’s, one-tier Master’s, and non-degree programs:

  • Tuition-free education
  • Monthly stipend (HUF 43,700 or approximately EUR 110) for living expenses, 12 months a year
  • Accommodation support (dormitory or HUF 40,000/month contribution)
  • Medical insurance in accordance with Hungarian legislation

For Doctoral programs:

  • Tuition-free education
  • Monthly stipend (HUF 140,000 or approximately EUR 365 for the first phase and HUF 180,000 or approximately EUR 470 for the second phase) for 12 months a year
  • Accommodation support (dormitory or HUF 40,000/month contribution)
  • Medical insurance according to Hungarian legislation

Required Documents

You can start the application without a passport and use an alternative identity document (e.g., national ID card). If you lack identification, you can provide a signed declaration stating your intent to obtain the required document by August 1. However, a valid passport will be necessary if you are awarded the scholarship.
