Bill Barr, a former attorney general, was undecided on whether he would support President Joe Biden or his ex-boss Donald Trump in the general election.
When asked who he would support in the general election if the candidates were the same as in 2020, Barr told NBC News for a survey that he opposed Trump for the GOP nomination, but added, “I’ll jump off that bridge when I get to it.”
The Republican front-runner for president was denounced for his conduct after the 2020 election by the former head of the Department of Justice who Trump chose. Trump has been blasted for his legal woes.
“I have made clear that I strongly oppose Trump for the nomination and will not endorse Trump,” Barr told NBC News. When asked how he would vote if Trump faced Biden in the general election, Barr said, “I’ll jump off that bridge when I get to it.”
Barr referred to Trump as a “consummate narcissist” and characterized his actions as “reckless” in the wake of Trump’s federal indictment on charges relating to his handling of secret information after leaving the White House.
Barr’s response was a component of a survey asking former members of the Trump cabinet if they would back him in the general election. Only four people stated they would support Trump, while the majority remained silent.

NBC News reached out to 44 of the dozens of people who served in Trump’s Cabinet over his term in office. Most declined to comment or ignored the requests. A total of four have said publicly they support his run for re-election. Several have been coy about where they stand, stopping short of endorsing Trump with the GOP primary race underway. Then there are those who outright oppose his bid for the GOP nomination or are adamant that they don’t want him back in power.
